South Dakota Family Connection - Keeping Families Together While They Are Apart. Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Hospitality Suite

The inspiration for providing shelter to families of inmates began when Ann Marie Rossing observed visiting families sleeping in their cars outside the penitentiary. She believed they should have access to safe, comfortable and affordable shelter. With her help and that of a group of dedicated volunteers, The Hospitality Suite provides:

    •    Temporary shelter

    •    Emergency supplies

    •    Services and support

to families with a loved one in prison in an ongoing effort to facilitate visitation and strengthen the family bond. Studies show that strong family relationships help prisoners do better while incarcerated and after release.

Families of people in prison are largely ignored or scorned by society. Very few organizations exist, nationwide, to help these families through their emotional trauma (separation, loss and grief, shame, and chaos), and their physical trauma (poverty and in some instances abuse).

The Hospitality Suite works to heal these wounds by providing a safe, homelike atmosphere where families can explore these emotions. Family Connection works with area volunteers to provide Chaplin services (upon request).

Many families have expressed that in The Hospitality Suite they feel comfort in knowing they are not the only ones in this situation. It is the hope of the Family Connection staff and board that The Hospitality Suite provides a place of comfort and support to all who stay here while visiting.

Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance, so we are ready for your arrival.
